Fine Gael criticised over Knockmore PO

Fine Gael politicians were criticised for not standing up to An Post and do more in their power to prevent the closure of Knockmore Post Office.
The closure was raised by Fianna FΡil councillor Willie Nolan who criticised An Post for not allowing the Knockmore community the opportunity to keep it open to show it could be profitable. He also questioned how the Fine Gael Oireachtas members and County Councillors could not do anything to save it.
He was supported by Cllr John O’Malley who said An Post were onto a ‘win win’ situation if they kept it open for another two years under the communities business plan but the decision reflected ‘stupidity’.
Independent councillor Gerry Ginty lay the blame at the feet of the four Fine Gael TD’s claiming that it would not have happened if Fianna FΡil were in power.
“I am surprised the people of Knockmore took it so lightly as did the Fine Gael politicians in the county. We have the Taoiseach and the Minister and yet they lay down under the juggernaut as it rolled over them. As bad as Fianna FΡil were, I don’t think that a Fianna FΡil Minister would stand by and see a post office close in their area,” he said.
