A Ballina man who stole two bottles of wine from a Killalla shop on Good Friday has been fined €100
Man stole wine from shop on Good Friday
A MAN who stole two bottles of wine from a shop on Good Friday was fined €100 at last week’s sitting of Ballina District Court. Mark Murphy of 54 Ridgepool Village, Ballina, pleaded guilty to the offence, which took place on April 6 last. Ballina District Court heard that he went under the taped-off licensed area of the Centra Supermarket in Killala and took two bottles of wine and put them in a hold-all bag. The shop assistant noted the incident on CCTV and followed Mr Murphy and his friend, John Paul Cunningham (37) of Derrygorman, Westport, up the street and took the bottles from him. The gardaí were called and both men were arrested for being intoxicated in a public area. Both men apologised for their behaviour, and Mr Murphy accepted he was in the wrong and said he had never committed this type of offence before. Judge Mary Devins fined him €100 for the theft and €75 for the public-order offence. She also fined Mr Cunningham €75.
