The body recovered from the Robe River in Ballinrobe on Wednesday last was that of missing Kilmaine man Michael Heneghan. Mr Heneghan (59), from Ballymartin, Kilmaine, was last seen alive on Friday evening, January 27 last and a search of areas of South Mayo had been ongoing for over two weeks. Members of the Moy Search and Rescue Team and the Boyne fishermen who had been among the many volunteers assisting in the search recovered the body. Gardaí have thanked all who assisted in the search. Mr Heneghan’s removal took place from Cummins’ Funeral Home in Ballinrobe on Friday evening to St Patrick’s Church, Kilmaine. Funeral Mass took place on Saturday with burial afterwards in Kilmaine new cemetery. Michael Heneghan was a big football fan who would regularly be seen travelling to Mayo and Kilmaine games on his motorbike. He is from a well-known football family and one of his brothers, Brendan, won an All-Ireland Club football title with UCD in 1975 under the tutelage of Eugene McGee. Mr Heneghan was the youngest of a family of six brothers, Desmond, Vincent, Eamonn, Brendan and Walter being his five brothers.
