Mayo champions to meet Shrule/Glencorrib

COUNTY champions Ballintubber will face Shrule/Glencorrib in the Mayo SFC quarter-final later this month — a repeat of last year’s semi-final which ended in a five points victory for the eventual title winners.
However, the stand-out pairing of the last eight ties looks to be the meeting of last year’s beaten finalists, Castlebar Mitchels, and Crossmolina.
That game will pit former Mayo managers, Pat Holmes and John Maughan, against each other on the sideline and Castlebar, the bookie’s favourites to win the Moclair Cup, will enjoy home advantage at McHale Park.
Former All-Ireland club champions Ballina Stephenites were drawn against Breaffy, while Ray Dempsey’s Knockmore will square up to Kieran Gallagher’s Ballaghaderreen.
Meanwhile, in the Mayo Intermediate championship, title favourites Burrishoole will take on Hollymount/Carramore in the quarter-finals.
A mouth-watering South Mayo derby is also in prospect after Davitts were paired with Kilmaine in the last eight, while Ballyhaunis will face Belmullet.
Last year’s Mayo junior champions, Parke, will have to beat Cill Chomain to book their place in the last four.
Elsewhere, in the Mayo senior championship relegation play-offs, Charlestown will meet Kiltane and Garrymore were drawn against Tourmakeady.
In the Intermediate championship relegation play-offs, Bonniconlon will take on Killala and Kilmeena meet Achill in a West Mayo derby clash.
The winners of each of these play-offs will retain their championship status for 2012 while the losers will meet in a relegation final.
Meanwhile, in the Mayo Junior championship quarter-finals, Ballina Stephenites ‘B’ play The Neale; Castlebar ‘B’ will play Islandeady; Ardnaree face Louisburgh, and Lahardane are up against Ballintubber ‘B’.
All the quarter-finals have been provisionally fixed for the weekend of August 27/28.
