Westport will offer cheap and cheerful €5 deals every Friday from July 29 in a bid to improve business in the town
Fiver Friday Frenzy to hit Westport
Áine Ryan
EVEN if it is the height of the tourist season in busy heritage town Westport, it is still a perfect time to add a little more mania to the planned streets with Fiver Friday Frenzy. While Joe Duffy’s Liveline radio show kick-started the cut-price Fiver Friday campaign, it has already proven popular in towns and cities throughout our cash-strapped country. Now the local chapter of BNI (Business Networking) and Westport Chamber of Commerce is set to drive a Fiver Friday campaign here in the tourism haven. The creative campaign will ensure that customers in the broad range of shops in the town will be offered loads of bargains and treats each week. Participating shops will have lots of different cheap and cheerful options on offer. As well as dedicated items on sale for a knock-down price of a fiver (€5), there will be other offers such as ‘buy five and get one free’ or ‘spend over €50 and get a free gift worth a fiver’. “It’s our plan to sell Westport as one big department store. If we work together in our efforts to keep business alive, it will benefit us all,” the organisers say. Plans are afoot to launch Fiver Friday on July 29 next as an upbeat start to the bank Holiday weekend. The organisers will also post all the relevant information on the Liveline website and posters are available at the Chamber of Commerce or directly from Karen Hughes.
