The death has taken place of well-known Castlebar man Larry McHale.?Aged in his early 80s, the deceased was a well-known local builder and was actively involved in Castlebar Boxing Club from his time as a young boxer until a few months before his death. ?“Larry was held in great standing within the boxing club,” Paddy Kilgallon, a boxing club stalwart, told The Mayo News. “He was our main fundraiser for many years and always ensured that the club had enough money to keep going. He was a trustee of the club and I remember him involved in coaching when I first got involved in boxing myself in 1955. He was heavily involved in the development of our current clubhouse on The Mall, from 1969-72. He was involved with the club too until about six months ago when his health started to deteriorate,” added Mr Kilgallon.?From St Brigid’s Crescent in Castlebar, the late Larry McHale was from a well-known Castlebar family. His funeral Mass takes place today (Tuesday) at 11am in the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar with burial in the new cemetery.
