Matt Loughrey to open an exhibition of stunning photos taken while climbing Croagh Patrick every day for a year
Loughrey to open Croagh Patrick 365 exhibition
Matt Loughrey has been climbing Croagh Patrick every day for a year since June 5 last year. Why? To raise money for the Society of St Vincent de Paul to benefit needy families in the west of Ireland. The final climb in his epic challenge takes place next month on June 4. Come rain or hail the 32-year-old has never missed a climb. Along the way, Loughrey has captured his journey through his camera’s lens, taking a photograph every day. Already garnering a cult following online, these extraordinary and beautiful images will now be on display in a new exhibition, which the ambitious fundraiser will launch in the Clew Bay Hotel, Westport this Friday, May 20, at 7.30pm. For Loughrey, Croagh Patrick is an inspiring mountain. “It is the perfect place to photographically capture the very best of people and scenery. It is host to many thousands of climbers each year. ‘365’ is a unique event that has captured the attention of a large audience through social networking. A mountain adventure, a photographic adventure and above all, a charitable adventure.” All proceeds from the sale of images in the exhibition at the Clew Bay Hotel will go to St Vincent De Paul.
