Claremorris native and Fine Gael Junior Minister Lucinda Creighton tied the knot last Friday in Dublin
Creighton has a royal wedding
Trevor Quinn
Claremorris native and Fine Gael Junior Minister Lucinda Creighton managed to avoid the commotion and the media pre-occupation with the Royal Wedding on Friday afternoon as she tied the knot herself in a ceremony in Dublin. The Trinity College law graduate married Fine Gael party colleague Senator Paul Bradford in a low-key ceremony which was attended by an intimate gathering of approximately 20 family and friends. Deputy Creighton said it was a coincidence that her marriage was taking place on the same day as Prince William and Kate Middleton and said that the couple ‘had actually planned it long before that’. Ceremonies in the Trinity College Chapel, where the Fine Gael couple tied the knot, have a long waiting list and must be booked at least six months prior to the wedding date. The couple got engaged in New York last year and have been going out for three years. Ms Creighton said the couple wanted a private and personal ceremony and stated that the ceremony was particularly special because of its intimate size and because of the fact that only those who close to them were in attendance. The happy couple joined their closest family and friends for a special meal after the wedding ceremony at a nearby restaurant. The newly married couple will defer their honeymoon until August when the DΡil and the Seanad will be closed for the summer break and they will return to work today after the long weekend. Ms Creighton said the time constraints of the general election campaign had made it difficult to set a wedding date initially but added that they were ‘both used to organising things’.
