Minister Ring to address Westport Tourism AGM
Áine Ryan
RECENTLY appointed Minister for State at the Department of Tourism, Michael Ring, will be the guest speaker at the Westport Tourism organisation’s Annual General Meeting to be held in the Wyatt Hotel on Thursday night next, April 14. The organisation has upgraded its website, www.westporttourism.com and is one of the tourism haven’s main promotional planks for the local industry, which, despite the recession, continues to flourish. Speaking to The Mayo News yesterday, Chairman Christy Madigan said that Westport depends on tourism and must continue to innovate and develop the excellent product on offer. “While the most recent CSO figures show that tourism numbers are down around the country due to the recession, Westport is faring better. The great welcome traditionally offered to visitors here is paying off now with a huge amount of repeat business. We have an excellent cultural and social town which attracts people and families of every age.,” Mr Madigan said. He said that the AGM would discuss key promotional aims that were implemented in 2010 and which have already paid dividends. He added: “We are delighted to have Michael Ring speaking at our AGM.” All accommodation and service providers to visitors are asked to make a special effort to attend. The meeting isopen to the public. Refreshments will be served.
