Gardaí renew Collins appeal

Ballina Gardai have issued a renewed appeal for information regarding the disappearance of Sandra Collins who vanished without trace over a decade ago.
As a result of several recent public appeals, a number of new witnesses have come forward and Gardaí now believe that a white van was in Killala around the time Sandra was last seen and are now seeking the assistance of the public in identifying this van.
Gardai are now appealing to any one who may have seen or have information in relation to a white van in Killala on Monday night, December 4, 2000 to come forward and make contact with investigating gardai.
The ten year anniversary of Sandra Collins’ disappearance was marked last December when the case was once again highlighted in both local and national media, in Barry Cummins best selling book, ‘Without Trace – Ireland’s Missing’ and in recent weeks, as part of a TV3 documentary, ‘Missing’.
Originally from Crossmolina, but living in Killala for several years, she was aged 29 at the time of her disappearance. She left her aunt’s house in Killala at approximately 7.30pm on December 4, 2000.  Sandra was seen in Birrane’s shop, Church Street, Killala, between 7.30pm and 7.45pm. According to her family, she went there for messages and it is thought she may have intended to visit a friend the same evening.
Sandra was last seen between 11.05pm and 11.15pm at the Country Kitchen take-away on Georges Street where she bought some food.  Investigations continue as to her whereabouts after she left Birrane’s shop; where she was until 11.05pm; and where she went after she left the take-away.
Anyone who may have any information is asked to contact Ballina Garda Station on 096 20560, The Garda Confidential Telephone Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
