Westport town councillor Ollie Gannon said last week that the announcement by Allergan Pharmaceuticals that they were to create 20 new jobs at the Westport facility was ‘fantastic news’ for the region.
Cllr Gannon, who is himself an employee of Allergan, congratulated Vice President and Managing Director of Allergan Pharmaceuticals Mr Pat O’Donnell, the Allergan management team and all the employees for their remarkable efforts in securing these new jobs for Westport.
“In these times of recession it is great to see Allergan in Westport continuing to grow. Allergan as the main employer in the town continues to contribute in a very positive way to the local economy. All new jobs created in the town are very welcome particularly in these times of high unemployment,” he said.
The new jobs are being transferred from Boston to Westport, and these jobs will be in the manufacture of a new product not previously produced at the Westport facility. Cllr Gannon said this decision was not taken lightly and was made based on the expertise available at Allergan in Westport, and the capacity to produce this new product in bulk.
Commenting on the announcement Allergan MD Mr O’Donnell said: :Westport has been chosen as the manufacturing location for this product as we can combine our state-of-the-art engineering capabilities alongside our scientific expertise. We are pleased to be continuing our track record of significant investment into Ireland as we develop and commercialise new products and technologies.”
