Council will be performing temporary works on pot holed road until they get money for permanent road works
Potholed Lodge Road will be filled by council
Áine Ryan
WESTPORT’S Lodge Road has clearly become a prime example of the potholed and pockmarked impact of the recent protracted Arctic conditions. And for cash-strapped local authorities, this freezing fall-out will continue to cause financial and logistical headaches for the coming months. The Lodge Road is by all accounts an extreme but typical example of the ravaging effects compacted ice and frost have on tar and chippings. Speaking to The Mayo News yesterday, Mr Joe Beirne, County Engineer, said he was aware of the representations made about this particular road, which has a junction with the busy Westport to Castlebar N5. “We have correspondence about the Lodge Road and plan to deal with it as soon as possible. Our assessment is a bit like last year’s. We will carry out temporary works during the next few weeks. And then we hope to get some monies for permanent works and we will allocate this to our Roads Programme,” Mr Beirne said.
