Book planned to chart Westport soccer history

A COMMEMORATIVE book, charting the history of soccer in Westport, will be published later this year. This year is the 100th anniversary of the foundation of Westport United Football Club and those behind the publication believe that the anniversary provides historians with the perfect opportunity to look at the history of the sport in the area.
As is the norm for such publications, local input will be vital to its success and with that in mind, the organisers are looking for all types of material associated with the sport in the town over the past 100 years. Old photographs of representative teams, local league teams, match programmes, newspaper clippings, social occasions such as dinner dances or any gathering of supporters, or even old video recordings which were very popular when first introduced, will all be welcomed with open arms by those producing the book.
The committee in charge of the publication are particularly anxious to assure anyone who contributes material that it will be returned in exactly the same condition that it was handed over in. They understand the concerns that people have about letting valuable material out of their possession, even for a short time, and they will guarantee that all material will be taken care of and returned promptly.
