Standing ovation for final GrΡinne Mhaol show

THE Legend of GrΡinne Mhaol traditional music show at Hotel Westport received a standing ovation following a sold out final performance of the show last week in Westport.  The show, which ran for fifteen weeks every Wednesday night at Hotel Westport received glowing reviews from everyone that attended it and is now regarded as a ‘must see’ for visitors and locals to Westport during the summer.
“We’re delighted that the show went so well at Hotel Westport all summer and we’re especially thrilled that so many people came to see the show and enjoyed it so much,” said Westport native and show producer Piaras Ó Raghallaigh.
The Legend of GrΡinne Mhaol music show is based on the real-life story of the legendary Irish pirate chieftain, Grace O’ Malley or GrΡinne Mhaol and is a wonderful celebration of Irish music, song and dance.  The show captured the imagination of audiences across all ages and cultures during the summer in Westport with many visitors and locals returning to see the show a number of times.
“We got unreal support from local people, hotels in Westport, B&B owners and the entire tourism sector all summer and that was so encouraging.  We also attracted a number of tour groups to come to visit Westport during the summer to see the show and that was a great boost for the local economy,” stated Ó Raghallaigh.
The Legend of GrΡinne Mhaol featured a wealth of talented musicians and dancers from all over the west of Ireland.  Lord of the Dance fiddle player Cora Smyth headlined the show with You’re a Star finalist James Kilbane, Ballinrobe native Jenny Mulvey, Latino sensation Pollyanna Guedes, All-Ireland champion musicians Darragh, Sinead and Michéal Healy, Claremorris dancer Angela Duggan and Ireland’s most gifted and best know Sean Nós family in Brian, Ashline and Irene Cunningham all on board for the voyage during the summer.
As regards next year, O’Raghallaigh stated that the cast and crew were now enjoying a well-earned break and would consider their options in great detail in the early part of the New Year.
