WELL-known celebrity gardener Diarmuid Gavin (pictured) has committed to filming a new series on a project that will be undertaken on the Westport Greenway. Town Manager, Mr Martin Keating, said the council had received the good news last week and the Tidy Town’s Committee in the town had also committed funding to the project. Mr Keating said the new Greenway Recreational Park, which will incorporate a skate board park among other things, had been the subject of a Part 8 under the Local Government Regulations and an application would now be placed with the South West Mayo Leader Development Company to source funding for the project. The park will be located in the triangular area between the two bridges which cross the Greenway in Cloonmonad. Diarmuid Gavin has already visited the site and will now draw up his vision for the park. “This is a new exciting dimension to an already worthwhile project and we are delighted the project will receive exposure on Diarmuid Gavin’s new show, which will be filmed and transmitted in 2011,” said Mr Keating. The news was warmly welcomed by all councillors present.
