Club championship round up
The final round of group action in the Mayo Senior Football Championship proved to be a little of an anti climax on Sunday as all results went to form. All but one of the quarter finalists have been confirmed and baring an eight point defeat at home to West Mayo, Breaffy will become the final team to book their place in the knockout stages when they play their final group game next weekend. Castlebar, Shrule/Glencorrib, Ballina and Knockmore secured their places on Saturday evening and on Sunday they were joined by a high scoring Ballintubber along with an even higher scoring Crossmolina. Title holders Charlestown also advanced with a game to spare in the five-team section three. Charlestown were in fine form away to Westport early on Sunday afternoon. In a rip roaring first half display they built up a 1-9 to 1-2 lead against a home side that struggled to deal with the pace and strength of the visiting forwards. Westport rattled off the first two scores of the second half but Charlestown clicked back into gear and Anthony Mulligan's second half goal killed off the tie. Joey McBrien added a couple of fine points from play during the one sided second half and all this was done without the injured Tom Parsons. The defeat ends Westport's interest in the Championship. Their poor scoring difference record, after completing their four games, means that no combination of results in the final round could see them progress. Breaffy were too strong for Kiltane in the other Section 3 game, kicking 1-4 without reply in the opening 12 minutes of the contest to set the tone. Peter Dravins got the goal and although they rarely hit top gear after that blitz they were never under pressure despite missing the injured Seamus O'Shea in the middle. On Sunday afternoon the two section one contests promised plenty of tension and drama but merely served up two lop sided contests with the home sides, and favourites, advancing. Crossmolina rattled up a whopping 1-20 against Garrymore to record their first win of the campaign (after two draws) and advance with style. Two goals in the final five minutes offered scant consolation for Garrymore who struggled for scores with Enda Varley being kept scoreless. Cathal Carolan got the Crossmolina goal while Brian Benson and Joe Keane were in superb form throughout. Ballintubber scored three goals in a sensational four minute spell to destroy the Claremorris challenge on Sunday. They led by 11 at the break and never looked back winning 4-11 to 0-4. Claremorris are heading for a relegation play off after a bizarre campaign that saw them demolished by both Garrymore and Ballintubber yet still able to draw with Crossmolina in round two. Two of those first half Ballintubber goals came from backs John Feeney and Gary Loftus while the other came from Rory O'Connor and was made by his brother Cillian. Sunday Senior Championship Results

Intermediate Championship
There was a busy day of action on Sunday in the Intermediate Championship in the battle for quarter final places. Section four provide some early drama with Achill defeating Killala by five points to move into second place but then discovering the bad news that Davitts had toppled Kilmaine in an exciting south Mayo battle, That result means Davitts advance as group winners while Kilmaine are tied on three with Achill but advance thanks to their opening round win at the west Mayo club. Burrishoole were already through from Section three but were joined in the last eight on Sunday by Ballyhaunis who lost at home to Swinford but snuck through on points difference after a three-way tie for second. While Burrishoole made it three wins from three with a comfortable eight-point home win over local rivals Kilmeena, the battle for second saw all three sides finish on two points. At half time Swinford led Ballyhaunis by seven, 1-9 to 0-5, with a Stephen Walsh goal and four points from play from Mayo minor Jack McDonnell proving vital. In fact all bar one point of their total came from play. A seven point margin was what they needed to advance but that was eroded in a second half where, incredibly, the winners managed just one point, a free from Conor Campbell. Ballyhaunis did just enough thanks to an early second half goal from Brian Hunt and four more points during a lifeless half hour of football. The final score was 1-10 to 1-8 in Swinford's favour and that at least means they avoid the relegation play off with Kilmeena that unlucky side to draw the short straw. The conclusion of section one was relatively straight forward. A well fancied Belmullet were too strong for Bonniconlon wining 0-11 to 0-3. The visitors failed to score in the entire second half. Kiltimagh were made work for their place in the last eight but had three points to spare in the end against Mayo Gaels who slip into the dreaded relegation battle after finishing bottom of their group.
