Belfast jazz pianist brings troupe to Westport

Jazz composer and pianist Scott Flanigan.

The Scott Flanigan Trio and Ant Law take to the stage in Westport this Sunday, April 30, at the Clew Bay Hotel

The Scott Flanigan Trio along with Ant Law take to the stage in Westport on Sunday, April 30, for a special Westport Jazz gig at the Clew Bay Hotel.
Hailing from Belfast in Northern Ireland, Scott Flanigan is one of the foremost keyboard players on the Irish jazz scene. He performs regularly across the UK, Ireland and Europe, and has recently collaborated with Van Morrison, the Ulster Orchestra, Rob Luft, Jim Mullen and Linley Hamilton.
As a leader, Scott successfully tours his own contemporary piano trio, as well as a hard-swinging organ quartet. He also runs the successful Scott’s Jazz Club in East Belfast, a weekly jazz club bringing the best in Irish jazz to local audiences.
Flanigan’s second release as a leader follows the 2015 recording, ‘Point Of Departure’, acclaimed for both its original compositions and reworked standards.
For this 2022 release, ‘Clouded Lines’, the artist is joined by London-based guitarist Ant Law, alongside the Irish rhythm section powerhouse of Dave Redmond on bass and Kevin Brady on drums.
“Since my last record, I’ve taken time to reflect on my craft, explore wider influences, and collaborate with other musicians,” says Flanigan. “Ant Law’s fiery guitar lines perfectly complement the music and capture exactly the sound I had in my head. Dave Redmond and Kevin Brady, on bass and drums respectively, are musicians who I’ve performed with frequently, and every time I play with them we connect in ways that enhance every part of the music”.
This Westport performance, which will be held in the back room of The Clew Bay Hotel, is part of an island-wide tour. The gig starts at 8pm, and tickets (€10) can be prebooked by contacting the hotel reception on 098 28088.
