BREAKING: Patsy O'Brien concedes defeat

Independent loses battle for Mayo seat with Aontú candidate Paul Lawless

BREAKING: Patsy O'Brien concedes defeat

Independent Patsy O'Brien has just admitted defeat, live on Midwest Radio. That means Keira Keogh (FG) and Paul Lawless (Aontú) will shortly be confirmed as new TDs.

Patsy O'Brien said on Midwest Radio: "Lawless has got the transfers and got the transfers all day. All I can say is I put up a fight and the bravest fight I could put up. You have to be gracious in defeat."

It transpired during count eleven for the Mayo constituency, that the votes won't be there for O'Brien to overtake Lawless.

"I did everything I could do", O'Brien said, "with limited resources and with a hard working team around me and we utilised it. I gave it all I could. I stood for the people of south Mayo who have not had a voice in Dáil Éireann since 1923 to 1927.I went for the betterment of my area. I am not sorry I went and I did my utmost to make sure there would be a voice in that area."
