ELECTION CHANCES: The inclusion of Gerry Murray onto the Sinn Féin ticket surprised many in the county, particularly when it came at a time when the party was struggling in the polls. The Charlestown native admitted himself it was a gamble but felt there was still a bounce for the party ahead of election day. Murray's popularity in east Mayo is unquestioned and a wave of support for Sinn Féin may put Murray in a shake for the final seat but if the polling figures remain the same, he is likely to act as a sweeper to get running mate Conway-Walsh over the line.
