Dillon turns sod for extension to national school he attended

Minister of State, Alan Dillon, TD, has said he was proud to turn the sod for the proposed extension to Ballyheane National School earlier today.
School principal Ann Marie Kelly was joined by staff, pupils, members of the Board of Management as well as a number of public representatives who watched as Minister Dillon, a past pupil, turned the sod on the single storey extension to the school.
The extension will include the addition of a new mainstream classroom and a special education teaching room.
The works will also see upgrading of services to the existing building as well as improvements to the existing set down area and access for emergency services.
Minister Dillon said: “This is a proud day for the school community which will see work begin on the first extension at Ballyheane NS since 1985. There has been continuous increased enrolment at the school and this extension is badly needed.
“I am delighted that works are commencing and I want to wish Principal Kelly, her staff, pupils and Board of Management the very best of luck with the project in the coming months.
“I look forward to its completion and seeing the benefits this extension will bring to staff and pupils of the school.”
