Across the June Bank Holiday weekend, Mayo Roads Policing Unit carried out speed checks and patrols on the N17 as part of their Bank Holiday Road Safety Campaign.

Gardaí detected several motorists travelling over the 100 km/h speed limit, resulting in a fine and penalty points.

A vehicle was also stopped by Gardaí and was subsequently impounded for having no insurance. Gardaí have stated that the driver will now face court proceedings.

Concluding their statement, Gardaí said:

“Slow down. Drive responsibly. Help us keep our roads safe for everyone this Bank Holiday weekend.”
