It has been confirmed that Roscommon star forward Daire Cregg is set to miss their Connacht Championship semi-final clash with Mayo after his one-game suspension was upheld.

The Boyle clubman, who was the second-top scorer for the Rossies in the National League, was dismissed by referee Brendan Cawley in their provincial quarter-final win over New York in the Bronx.

The alleged off-the-ball incident occurred in the dying embers of the first half, prompting Cawley to brandish the red card.

Cregg appealed the suspension at a meeting of the Central Hearings Committee on Monday, April 20. However, per reporting in the Roscommon Herald, the appeal was unsuccessful.

As a result, Roscommon manager Mark Dowd will be without one of his key forwards as the Primrose and Blue make their way West to MacHale Park on Sunday afternoon.

The fleet-footed attacker has been a go-to man for his county in recent seasons and has even attracted interest from AFL side Carlton.
