Mayo Under-20 manager Keith Higgins has confirmed that forward sharpshooters Kobe McDonald and Darragh Beirne will not be held back for the Connacht Senior Championship semi-final against Roscommon.

The bainisteoir made the comments in the wake of his side's Under-20 win over Galway in MacHale Park, which sees them into the final on Wednesday, April 29.

There was some concern about the pair's availability for Andy Moran's senior side, given the fact that the seniors will face the Rossies on Sunday, April 26, only three days before the underage decider.

For the Senior quarter-final against London, Andy Moran made the decision not to include either Beirne or McDonald due to their Under-20 commitments.

Now, though, Higgins has revealed that, should Moran want them to feature, there will be no opposition on his part.

"We hadn't flagged it, but we knew that potentially this could be something that was going to pop up.

"I'll chat to Andy tomorrow whenever they get back, I'm sure. We'll see what their schedule is for the next week.

"You can't not have the two boys in contention for a Connacht semi-final against Roscommon, and we'll see how that goes. I think Andy would want them to be available for us, then after that.

The concept of having two high-profile players playing for two separate sides at a crucial juncture of the season brings particular challenges, per the Ballyhaunis clubman.
"Anyone would want them. But, yeah, that's the beauty of it, of the two boys. But on the flip side, that's the whole issue around the schedule of the competition.
"It's not easy in the condensed season. I don't know if it's all as cracked up to be, but that's an argument for another day."
Both McDonald and Beirne have put in incredible displays at both Senior and Under-20 level in 2026.
McDonald caused waves with his debut for the Seniors in Clones, and scored 1-7 across three National League appearances.
He has also shown his propensity for tearing defences asunder in the Connacht Under-20 Championship, notching 3-13 and finishing as Mayo's joint-top scorer from the group stage.
The other joint-top scorer, Darragh Beirne, has managed a whopping 1-19 in showings which have seen him named as one of ten Under-20 footballers to keep an eye on in 2026.
His exploits in altering the scoreboard aren't just confined to this grade, as he hit the ground running with goals in National League wins over Galway and Dublin.
