McHale departs Ladies role

There was a real fear of the Mayo Ladies falling through the trapdoor when fans made their way to
Tubbercurry, but 1-5 from Sinead Walsh helped secure their Senior status against Leitrim.

Immediately after the game, bainisteoir Liam McHale made the decision to call time on his stint at the
helm.

League of Ireland side comes West

The county town had a carnival-like feel when Longford Town made their way to Castlebar for an FAI Cup Round Two joust with Castlebar Celtic.

The thrill-a-minute joust with League of Ireland opposition was level with 15 to go, but three goals in the closing stages took the game away from Celtic, who could hold their heads high.

The week before, Stevie Gavin’s men secured their third Super League on the spin in a season where
they ended as flawless champions.

Mayo’s Greatest Supporter announced

Names like Oisín McConville, John Maughan and Andy Moran may have been bandied about in July for
the role of Mayo manager, but the most coveted title in the land was clear.

When The Mayo News and Théa Pharma drove to Dublin to surprise Claremorris man Seán Carney with the title of Mayo’s Greatest Supporter, excitement was high.

What followed were special scenes for all involved, and memories that will last a lifetime.

Castlebar Town Ladies success

Celtic weren’t the only club in Castlebar toasting League honours this month, as Castlebar Town ended
Manulla’s stranglehold on the Women’s Premier Division by beating the reigning queens.

Clíodhna Dowling’s brace was crucial as the women in black secured a 2-0 win over their bitter foes and set the party in motion.
