The majority of GAA enthusiasts in Mayo have welcomed the news that the FBD league is set to return in 2026.

The first round of the Connacht pre-season competition is set to get underway on Saturday, January 3 as Mayo go up against Sligo with the game due to be played in Fr O’Hara Park, Charlestown with the game throwing in at 1pm.

Andy Moran’s side will then travel to Roscommon on January 11 as Dr Hyde Park is set to host the clash between the Connacht pair, which will also commence at 1pm.

The remaining fixtures in the competition are due to be played on the weekend of 17/18 with fixture confirmation to be made after the opening two rounds.

The upcoming games could be seen as an opportunity for Andy Moran to get game time into young players such as last season’s Mayo U-20’s Diarmuid Duffy, Seamus Howard and Darragh Beirne who all featured in the recent charity game against Offaly.

Newcomers such as Breaffy’s Jack Livingstone, Ballina’s Liam Golden and Hollymount Carramore’s Nathan Moran could also feature while a mix of experience and youth is expected.
