All-Ireland Club Intermediate Hurling Championship Semi-Final

Tooreen 1-28

Éire Óg, Carrickmore 1-17

Mayo hurling kingpins Tooreen have a date with history.

The team managed by Ray Larkin are Croke Park bound for a second time in the club's history, after beating Tyrone and Ulster champions Éire Óg from Carrickmore in All-Ireland intermediate hurling semi-final.

In Breffni Park in Cavan on Sunday afternoon, Tooreen produced a remarkable second half performance, to come from two points down at half-time to win comfortably in the end.

It was a tense first half, both teams were evenly matched, the lead changed hands several times. Éire Óg forward Aidan Kelly showed his prolific scoring skills. He ended up with 0-9 in total.

The Tyrone supporters gave their team a standing ovation as they headed for the dressing rooms at half-time.

But it was the Mayo men, that grasped the nettle at the start of the second half and within minutes Tooreen had turned the match around.

With 50 minutes played, it was the ever-dangerous Shane Boland who delivered the crucial blow when he scored a goal that put the seal on a famous win for Tooreen

Boland was in fine form as he scored an impressive 1-8 in total. Liam Lavin also had a great match, contributing four points.

Tooreen will face the Tipperary champions Upperchurch-Drombane in the final, to be played on the weekend of January 10/11 in Croke Park, Dublin.

It's only the second time a Mayo team has reached the All-Ireland intermediate hurling final. Tooreen ran Limerick champions Monaleen extremely close in 2022, but eventually couldn't bring home the big prize.

The men in blue get another crack at the title in the new year and a glorious opportunity to make history.
