Mayo GAA officers should be given branded blazers to wear when officially representing the county at events both within the county and further afield.

The request, made by the president of the organisation, JP Lambe, came at the start of the 2025 Convention held in the grounds of Knock Shrine.

Lambe, who spent almost 20 years as treasurer of Mayo GAA, stepped down in 2015, having been the second-longest serving finance-officer in the country.

“It's a request I put in to the board that all other counties have proper blazers with their county crests on them. We don't seem to have them at the moment. We had them years ago, but it's a thing that has died away.

“I think it should go back again that county board officers would have blazers and crests for special occasions within the county and even outside the county. As I say, other counties have them, so why can't Mayo? We're just as good as any other one.”

The request for official blazers was one of two made by the president, with a request to be notified of exective meetings also forming part of his opening speech, which was preceded by an introduction and prayers from Fr Stephen Farragher in Knock Shrine to kick-start the gathering.

“I think the board should give him (the President) notification of meetings if he would like to attend them,” Lambe stated. “Maybe he would, maybe he wouldn't, but it's an option that he would have if he is told about them.”

The Mayo GAA Chair, Seamus Tuohy, thanked Lambe for his speech and informed him that the two requests have been noted and will be dealt with at the next meeting of the executive.
