An inspirational performance from Adam Kelly saw Ballyhaunis Community School secure glory on a damp evening under lights in Parke. Kelly a member of the Mayo Minor team this year was outstanding from start to finish as he finished with a fine tally of 0-7.

The East Mayo students started best as they raced into a six point lead with Fionn Conlon blasting to the net within the opening minute. Balla got up and running thanks to Patrick Mc Hale who struck over placed ball efforts.

Across the hour, there were numerous two pointers kicked but in bizarre fashion, none were awarded due to the pitch being marked incorrectly. With 21 minutes on the clock, Balla’s Liam Glynn produced an emphatic finish to the net as the sides went in level at the break 1-6 a piece.

The second half was all about Ballyhaunis’s Kelly, who kicked five superb points in his third game in the space of seven days. The West Mayo students under the guidance of Charlestown player Gareth O’Donnell and Ballyhaunis’s Adrian Phillips had a great chance to steal the glory.

Patrick Mc Hale stepped up from the penalty spot with moments remaining, however his effort was saved by Eamon Monaghan as the students in black and red celebrated when referee John Walker sounded for full time.

A full match report will be carried in Tuesday’s edition of The Mayo News.
