The ambitions for three-in-a-row got a bit of a dent in St Tiernan's Park. The neighbours from the Deel out-gunned the champions in this one.

A result, that sent shockwaves around the county. "Have you heard: Crossmolina beat Ballina!" was a sentence reverberating across Mayo.

17-year-old sensation Kobe McDonald earned a man of the match badge in his only second senior championship match.

The son of famous Mayo legend, Ciarán, showed that his style, delivery and work-rate was second to none, and Kobe was also his team's top scorer at 0-7.

Ballina Stephenites got a warning shot early enough. It wouldn't deter the reigning kings of Mayo, as their reaction to the derby defeat would be worthy of county champions.
