The town of Castlebar is mourning the loss of John Dolan, who passed away peacefully on October 23 at Jules Bordet Hospital in Brussels following a short illness. He was surrounded by his loving family at the time of his passing.

John was the beloved son of Martine and Paul Dolan, and adored brother of Jessica and Mark. He is sadly missed by his family, brother-in-law Michael, Mark's girlfriend Ceara, uncles, aunts, cousins, extended family, and many close friends.

A valued member of Castlebar Mitchels

Castlebar Mitchels GAA Club expressed great sadness at the news of John's passing, remembering him as a former junior and underage player and a valued member of their club community. John was also the brother of current senior player Mark Dolan. In a statement, the club said John "will be fondly remembered by all who knew him," adding "Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis." The club extended its deepest sympathies to Mark and the entire Dolan family during this difficult time.

Mayo County Council pays respect

The monthly Castlebar Municipal District meeting was adjourned as a mark of respect to John and his family and the late former councillor Frank Durcan. John has strong links to Mayo County Council through his father, Paul, the former head of roads with the council.

Cathaoirleach Councillor Al McDonnell led the tributes, describing John's death as unexpected and untimely. He noted that John died overseas from natural causes after a very short illness, calling it 'a tragic situation'.

Councillor Cyril Burke, whose association with the Dolan family goes back many years and whose son was in college with John, said it was a very sad occasion and difficult to deal with. "For any family, it's the worst thing that could come to your door," he said, extending his sympathies to the Dolan family.

Councillor Ger Deere, who worked closely with Paul Dolan through the council and voluntary organisations, recalled knowing John from his work at Bar One. "It's terrible what that family are going through and all we can do is pray for them and let them know they are in our hearts," he said.

Councillor Harry Barrett also extended his sympathies, calling it "a tragic situation to lose a young man in the prime of his life."

John Dolan's funeral arrangements have yet to be announced. May he rest in peace.
