JUNIOR FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP QUARTER FINAL

Bonniconlon 1-17

Tourmakeady 1-9

In Tourmakeady

On a warm outing in the heartland of the West Mayo Gaeltacht, Nobby Mc Loughlin’s Bonniconlon side came away victorious as they now advance to the final four in the Junior Championship.

It was the visitors who enjoyed the majority of the possession right throughout as Ciaran Gaughan, Wesley Loftus and Conor Igoe impressed for the North Mayo men.

Gaughan kicked eleven across the hour including eight in the first half although all but one came from placed ball efforts. Richard Mc Kenzie and Niall Greavy were both solid in the middle areas for last year's finalists while Sean Neary and Brian O’Malley worked hard in attack.

Harry Barker, Sean Joyce and Luke Lydon all kicked points for the West Mayo men as they trailed at the break on a scoreline of Bonniconlon 0-11, Tourmakeady 0-5.

Seconds into the fresh half, Paddy Lydon hit the back of the net for Tourmak’ while Wesley Loftus exchanged points with Ronan Mallee and Sean Staunton. With ten minutes remaining, Luke Lydon kicked an inspirational two pointer which left the bare minimum between the sides.

With the game in the melting pot, Nobby Mc Loughlin’s Bonniconlon side pulled away in the dying moments as Ciaran Gaughan and Rory Upton pointed before Brian O’Malley palmed to the net to finish a slick team move. In a strong final quarter, Gaughan sealed the deal with a fine two pointer free as the men from the shadows of the ox mountain progress.
