JUNIOR A CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL
Tooreen B 4-18
Moytura 0-15
In MacHale Park
Stephen Leneghan’s Tooreen side got their hands on the Ciaran Byrne Cup after defeating a brave Moytura side.
During the first half, it was nip and tuck throughout but goals from David and Fionn Delaney had the hosts in the lead at the interval. Although Moytura started best with Evan Heraty and Brendan Sheridan to the fore, the South Mayo men trailed at half time as Tooreen led 2-6 to 0-10.
Just six minutes into the fresh half, Man of the match, Fionn Delaney smashed the ball to the net as he got his second goal of the afternoon. With a large crowd following, the colourful Moytura battled gamely but ultimately failed to get a goal which proved pivotal.
Tooreen’s full forward line was outstanding all game as they troubled the opposition defence. From a tight angle, James Byrne blasted to the net with 50 minutes on the clock. From there on in, the men in blue finished strong as Moytura came up short in a competitive outing.
