JUNIOR B HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL

Westport 3-17

Ballina Stephenites 2-13

In MacHale Park

The men from Westport got their hands on the Tom Earley Cup after they overcame a relentless Ballina Stephenites side in fine fashion.

It was the North Mayo men who opened the scoring thanks to Alan Ferguson, but from there on in, Westport took control. Goals from the outstanding Dylan Fitzgerald and James Gallagher had the boys in blue in pole position. Luke Hurley tagged on much needed points but Westport continued to dominate as Aaron Ketterick, Cathal Guilfoyle and the impressive Dylan Fitzgerald all pointed.

Going in at the break, Westport led the Stephenites 2-9 to 0-5.

Westport’s full forward, Aaron Ketterick hit the net in the fresh half as their advantage grew further. With credit, Gary Barrett’s Ballina men never gave in as they chased the game and finished by scoring two late goals thanks to Padraig O’Flynn who hit the net on both occasions.

However, Westport finished best as they ran out convincing winners in the end.
