PRIMARY JUNIOR A FINAL

Knockmore 3-18

Westport 2-15

In Castlebar

An impressive second half performance from the saffron and blue resulted in them claiming silverware on a cold evening in Hastings Insurance MacHale Park.

Man of the match, Dylan Coleman kicked seven points for the North Mayo side as he and Charlie Bourke were to the fore for the eventual champions.

Westport’s Kevin Keane was in fine scoring form for the men in blue and he also raised seven white flags across the hour in a match when the sides were deadlocked going in at the break with the scoreboard reading 1-7 a piece.

An early second half goal from Darragh Holmes was followed up by another major from Mikie Lowther to put Knockmore in pole position.

Westport battled back thanks to points from Kevin Keane, John Grady and Ray Walsh before Darragh Hoban secured his and Westport’s second goal.

However that was as good as it got for the boys in blue as Knockmore finished powerfully to run out convincing winners in the end.

Knockmore captain Ryan Casey lifted the trophy along with Darragh Melvin amidst joyful scenes among the Knockmore contingent.

A full match report plus reaction will be carried in Tuesday’s edition of The Mayo News.
