The latest chapter of the long-winding story between Donegal and Mayo is set to be written on Sunday, as the pair go head-to-head in a bid to keep their summer alive.

While a lot of water has gone under the bridge from the last time these sides locked horns in the heightened intensity of Championship battle in 2019, and indeed the first iteration in 1992, many familiar faces from those days will be involved in the fray.

Take Jim McGuinness, who was present in both 1992 and 2012. Aidan O’Shea, the goalscorer, as the Green and Red crushed Donegal’s aspirations in 2015. Michael Murphy, who has climbed the steps of the Hogan Stand for the highest honour to Mayo heartache in 2012, or Stephen Rochford, who has stepped foot on either side of the divide.

With a dead-even record of nine wins, nine losses, and six draws throughout the annals of history, something is bound to give when these two collide in Hyde Park. Here, we’ll give you all the details. You’ll be able to follow every bit of the action here, as well as in Tuesday’s edition of the Mayo News.

Where and when is the game?

The All-Ireland Senior Football Championship Group One Round Three game between Mayo and Donegal takes place in King & Moffatt Doctor Hyde Park, Roscommon, on Sunday, June 15, at 4 pm.

Is the game on TV?

The game will be televised live on ‘The Sunday Game’ on RTÉ 2 and the RTÉ Player.

Where can I get tickets?

Tickets for the game can be purchased from Ticketmaster at this link. Tickets are priced at €20, with juvenile tickets at €5.

What happened the last time these two sides met?

There was shadow-boxing aplenty when a heavily depleted Donegal side travelled to Castlebar in their last game of the National League. Kevin McStay’s men got the win on that occasion, but that will count for very little in this weekend’s game.

What do Donegal bring to the table?

Make no mistake about it, this Donegal side can do some serious damage. They may have lost to Tyrone in Round One, but atoned for that with a whooping of Cavan in Round Two.

They possess some heavy hitters, with 2-94 between Daire O’Baoill, Patrick McBrearty, and the evergreen Michael Murphy.

Who is refereeing the game?

Following on from officiating the Mayo-Cavan tie, Paul Faloon will be renewing acquaintances with the Green and Red.

The Down native has also taken charge of games involving Jim McGuinness’ men in the not-too-distant past, including last year’s National League Division Two final, as well as the clash between themselves and Kildare in 2024.
