FORMER Mayo manager Pat Holmes has been appointed to the management team of the Westport senior men’s team.
Holmes is among six people announced to ‘take over the management of Adult Football’ in Westport GAA Club for 2025, according to a post on the club’s Facebook page.
He will be joined by former Mayo senior backroom team member Joe Doyle, Padraig Barrett, PJ Foy, Sean Sloan and Joe Fadian for the 2025 season.
The Moygownagh native first took charge of the Mayo senior team in betwen 1999 and 2002 and guided them to a National Football League Division 1 title in 2001.
In 2014, Holmes was installed as joint manager of the team with ex-Mayo captain Noel Connelly following James Horan’s resignation. The pair stepped down in September 2015 following a vote of no confidence by the Mayo players. Mayo won their fifth Connacht senior title in a row that season before being beaten by Dublin in the All-Ireland semi-final by Dublin.
Holmes takes over at Westport from Martin Connolly, who guided them to their first and only senior county title in 2022 before stepping aside at the end of last season.
