Meath 4-9 Mayo 2-6

Vikki Wall made a dramatic return to Gaelic football this afternoon when she scored two goals as Meath dismissed Mayo in Navan this afternoon.

The AFLW footballer’s impressive display was only outdone by the outstanding Ciara Smyth, who shot six points for the Royals as Mayo’s challenge wilted in the second half.

Mayo were once again over-reliant on Sinéad Walsh for scores. The full-forward finished with 2-4, with her two goals coming either side of a collision with Vikki Wall which forced her temporary withdrawal just before half-time.

Liam McHale’s women were under the cosh from early on against a Meath side playing with a strong breeze. The hosts went five points up before Mayo finally opened their account through Sinéad Walsh in the first half.

Wall then announced her arrival back from Aussie Rules football with the first of two cracking goals. Walsh replied within a minute after a mazy run before colliding with Wall, resulting in a yellow card for the Meath star.

Her absence was felt and Mayo eventually narrowed the gap back to two points after Walsh finished her second goal.

However, Meath roared back and Wall nearly burst the net for a second time before Niamh Gallogly delivered the mortal blow with a goal in the 58th minute.
