ALL-star winning defender Danielle Caldwell will captain the Mayo ladies in 2025, The Mayo News has learned.

The two-time All-Star will lead the team out against Dublin when the Mayo ladies play their first competitive game of the season against Dublin this weekend.

The 27-year-old has been a key player for Mayo for several years. The Castlebar Mitchels woman made her Mayo debut in 2015 and has won two Connacht titles with the green and red.

Caldwell has been a mainstay for her club and played a star role en route to their All-Ireland Intermediate Club final appearance in 2022.

Last year, she was again to the fore as Mitchels regained their senior status with a handsome win over Louisburgh in the county final.

She is the second Castlebar Mithchels woman to captain Mayo in recent years, following in the footsteps of Kathryn Sullivan, who captained them to a Connacht title in 2023.

They are joined on a new-look Mayo senior ladies panel by club mate Suzanne Tuohy, who played Minor for Mayo last year and was key member of Mitchels’ county-title-winning team, and Grace Filan, the daughter of former Castlebar Mitchels footballer and current senior men's team manager Kevin Filan.
