CROSSMOLINA Deel Rovers are through to their first All-Ireland final since 2003 after comfortably seeing off Kildare champions Caragh.

Inspired by an awesome display from Mayo senior Jordan Flynn, the Connacht champions delivered their most comprehensive and consistent display of the season.

Playing on a hard, cold surface, the Mayo men came to the fore, particularly in the second half, where they outscored Caragh 1-6 to 0-2.

Brian Benson’s men were rock solid in defence, slick on the attack and more physically robust against a Caragh team that simply weren’t allowed to get going.

A penalty converted by Conor Loftus after 14 minutes was key in a first half that was more even than the second half.

That allowed the Deel Rovers to take a 1-4 0-4 lead at half-time before Jordan Flynn totally took control of proceedings, laying the groundwork for an excellent second half where Crossmolina had stars in every area of the field.

Caragh were held to just a point from play in the second half from Jake Corrigan as an excellent Crossmolina team rarely gave their supporters a moment of stress.

Crossmolina will now face the winners of Austin Stacks and Ballinderry in the All-Ireland semi-final on Sunday, January 12, in Croke Park.

A full report plus reaction will be carried in Tuesday’s Mayo News.
