MAYO manager Kevin McStay has included five players who started Mayo’s championship defeat to Derry in his starting team to face Monaghan in Hastings Insurance MacHale Park tomorrow evening. 

Five of those who started Mayo’s last championship game feature in a new-look Mayo side to face the Farney County in a game where all proceeds will go towards the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association. 

Colm Reape, Donnacha McHugh, David McBrien, Eoin McLaughlin and Matthew Ruane have all been named to start. 

Moy Davitts forward Cian McHale, the top scorer in the 2024 Mayo Intermediate Championship, starts in the full-forward line alongside fellow Mayo senior debutant Ewan Duffy from Ballinrobe. Ryan O’Donoghue, Mayo’s top scorer in 2024, starts at corner-forward.

Mayo will be without Aidan O’Shea, Tommy Conroy and Paddy Durcan for tomorrow’s clash, which will be the first game ever to be played under the new rules in McHale Park. 

The game throws in at 6.30 pm tomorrow (Saturday, January 4). 

The Mayo team to start against Monaghan is as follows:
