The Mayo intermediate championship is often said to be the hardest competition to win in the county. Here, in The Mayo News, we can certainly say that selecting our Intermediate Team of the Year was an almost impossible task. There were numerous combinations argued for and every one of them had merit. However, when the final cut was made we selected a team based on individual performances and we're proud to unveil a team full of stars.
Between the posts is Crossmolina's JP Mulhern. He was excellent all season and when his team were in numerous tightly-contested matches he held his nerve and directed his back line impressively.

The back six is as good a group of defenders as there has ever been in the intermediate championship. Conor Loftus was inspirational for Crossmolina, mixing defensive doggedness with attacking intelligence. Dylan Jennings was a shining light in the Hollymount Carramore campaign. His style and delivery was a joy to behold. The performances of Alan Bourke were eye-catching all year. When Moy Davitts needed someone to step forward he did so time after time. Aaron Coggins had a fantastic season with Crossmolina. His ability to defend smartly and attack effectively was noteworthy every time he went out.
Colm Boyle has been at the heart of Davitts' defence for a decade and a half. As his club progressed through this year's championship he became more and more prominent. The man with four All Stars is still one of the best defenders in the Mayo club game.
Eoin Gilraine returned to the Ballinrobe side this season after being out injured for some time. He made an immediate impact and showed why his name is echoing across the county.
Two dynamic, talented and powerful young men fill the midfield spots. Jordan Flynn's consistently impressive displays helped drive Crossmolina to the county title, while Liam Donoghue was superb for Kiltane as the Erris men came within a kick of a ball of the semi-finals.
The half-forward line is filled with three of the most talented attackers in the county. Niall Coggins sparkled for Crossmolina every time he pulled the maroon jersey over his head. Cian McHale showed why he's rated so highly by those who watch him do his thing for Moy Davitts.

James Maheady was one of the shining stars of the entire competition. He kicked eye-catching scores as the Deel men powered through Mayo.
The full-forward line is filled by a trio who produced some of the most memorable moments of the whole championship. Shane Finnerty sparkled for Lahardane as they deservedly retained their championship status. Adam Rehill was unstoppable at times for Burrishoole while Brian Reape's ability to kick outrageous scores helped Moy Davitts to within a single score of the title.
