Eastern Gaels solidified their county title ambitions with a scorching second-half performance to send Killala packing this afternoon.
The match was played at championship intensity, with plenty of physicality both on and off the ball.
Red cards were issued Ethan Owens of Eastern Gaels and Killala captain Matthew Keane just twelve minutes into a dramatic contest.
Although the conditions were ideal for football, both sides initially struggled to create scoring opportunities.
Leading just 1-1 0-2 at half-time thanks to a goal from David Smith, Eastern Gaels were reinforced by a stiff breeze in the second half.
Eastern Gaels stunned Killala with three goals in three minutes, with two coming from Jack Madden followed by a second David Smith goal.
Smith was denied a hat-trick by the crossbar as Eastern Gaels showed their class throughout the second half, highlighted by four outstanding scores from former Mayo minor Senan Guilfoyle, who scored from all distances and angles.
Killala battled hard until the end but it was never going to be enough to bride the gap that Eastern Gaels had created.
