Just eight days after playing for Mayo in Castlebar, Ryan O'Donoghue came off the bench in Chicago to help John McBride's to a hard-earned draw in the city's senior championship. The Belmullet man was introduced in the first half of Sunday's clash with Parnell's and played a big role in McBride's comeback to seal a 2-18 to 4-12 draw.
Both McBride's and Parnells have long-standing Mayo connections and there were a number of local players on view including Breaffy's Oisin Tunney and Ballintubber's Ciaran Gavin for Parnells.
O'Donoghue helped McBride's keep in touch throughout the game but it seemed as if Parnells would hold out for the win as they led by a point deep in injury time. Gavin had a chance of a goal to seal the deal for the leaders in the closing moments, but his well-hit shot was brilliantly saved and McBride's went down the field for one last attack. A long-range free was awarded and O'Donoghue stepped forward to drive it between the posts and seal a hard-earned draw for the green and white.
