AIDAN O’Shea’s return will be the only change to the starting 15 that played against Cavan when Mayo face Roscommon in Dr Hyde Park this Saturday.
The three-time All-Star comes in at corner-forward in place of Ballintubber’s Diarmuid O’Connor in what will be 190th appearance for Mayo. The Breaffy man scored 1-1 when the sides last met in the Connacht championship semi-final earlier this year.
He will be joined in the full-forward line by The Neale’s Tommy Conroy and Cillian O’Connor while Mayo’s top scorer, Ryan O'Donoghue, switches out to centre-forward.
Darren McHale has been rewarded for an impressive showing against Cavan with a start at wing-forward while Sam Callinan retains his new berth at centre-back.
Mayo have played 22 championship games in Dr Hyde Park, their first being a 1-12 to 1-9 victory over Roscommon in 1975. They have recorded 16 wins against six losses in the venue, with their last loss there coming in 2001 when Gerry Lohan’s famous late goal ended Mayo’s Connacht title hopes.
Kevin McStay’s men have beaten Roscommon twice so far this year in the league and Connacht championship.
Barry Cassidy from Derry has been announced as the referee for Saturday’s All-Ireland Series meeting of Mayo and Roscommon, which throws in at 5pm. Stephen Coen will captain the team in the absence of the injured Paddy Durcan.
The game will be streamed live on GAAGO.
The Mayo team to face Roscommon in the second round of the All-Ireland Series is as follows: Colm Reape (Knockmore), Jack Coyne (Ballyhaunis), David McBrien (Ballaghaderreen), Donnacha McHugh (Castlebar Mitchels), Stephen Coen (Hollymount Carramore), Sam Callinan (Ballina Stephenites), Eoghan McLaughlin (Westport); Jack Carney (Kilmeena), Matthew Ruane (Breaffy), Darren McHale (Knockmore), Ryan O’Donoghue (Béal an Mhuirthead), Jordan Flynn (Crossmolina Deel Rovers), Aidan O’Shea (Breaffy), Tommy Conroy (The Neale), Cillian O’Connor (Ballintubber)
