THE Mayo U17 hurlers will take on Laois in the U17 Celtic Challenge Final at Abbotstown GAA Campus in Dublin on Sunday at 1pm. The lads have enjoyed a fine run with notable victories over Donegal, Sligo and Westmeath in the round robin series.

Kerry provided the opposition in the quarter-final where the Mayo lads again came out on top. The semi-final against Roscommon, played in Athleague, was a riveting encounter with Mayo battling back to secure a late equaliser to take the game to extra time. True grit and courage saw them claim victory on a scoreline of 2-20 to 2-17.

Kilmaine native, Seán Heneghan, who resides in Claremorris, is manager of the team and the coaches are Richard Crinnigan (Tooreen), Michael Bolger (Ballina and Offaly) and John Enright (Castlebar and Tipperary). They have done an excellent job in steering Mayo to the 2024 decider.

An impressive Laois team will start as favourites but the Mayo lads have already shown great passion and commitment and are unbeaten in the championship to date. The winners will be presented with the Michael Hogan Cup.

The Mayo team that lined out against Roscommon was: Liam Heneghan (Claremorris); Marc Munnelly (Ballina Stephenites), Conor Loftus (Castlebar Mitchels), Cillian Curley (Castlebar Mitchels); Cian Fahy (Castlebar Mitchels), Matthew Delaney (Tooreen), Eoin Enright (Castlebar Mitchels); Oisín Duffy (Caiseal Gaels), Dylan Quinn (Castlebar Mitchels); Fionn Delaney (Tooreen), Niall Peoples (Ballina Stephenites), Fionn Conlon (Ballyhaunis); Michael Gough (Ballina Stephenites), Ben Joyce (Castlebar Mitchels), David Delaney (Tooreen).
