MAYO’S newest supporter has donned his parents’ county colours merely hours after coming into the world.

Jack Reilly, born on May 10 in Galway University Hospital, sported a half-and-half Cavan-Mayo jersey shortly after being born at 36 weeks.

His father, Fergal Reilly, hails from Kilcogy, Co Cavan while his mother Kathy (nee Butler) is from Hollymount.

Fergal, a talented footballer with Ballymachugh in his playing days, met Kathy in Dublin before the pair moved to her native Mayo a number of years ago.

Their first child, Jack, lives in Claremorris and one day hopes to line out in green and red for the county of his birth.

Though now domiciled in Mayo, Fergal still attends every Cavan match and has vowed to get his son a Cavan jersey.

Mayo take on Cavan in Round 1 of the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship this Saturday in Hastings Insurance MacHale Park at 5pm.

“There’ll be a good crowd of Cavan people coming down,” Fergal told The Mayo News. “In fairness, we haven’t much in the last while but we’ll go out in numbers and support the county.”
