MAYO GAA is continuing to engage with the Revenue Commissioners over a tax issue relating to the payment of Cúl Camp wages.

A total of €119,778 was included under ‘PAYE and related charges’ in Mayo GAA’s treasurer’s report for 2023 – a jump from just €7,078 in 2022.

Mayo GAA Treasurer, Valerie Murphy, told delegates at the most recent county board meeting that there had been ‘no update’ on the matter.

“We have been chasing an update, but we haven’t got an update at the minute,” she said in response to a query from Garrymore delegate John Farragher.

The issue first came to light following a report in the Irish Independent on the weekend of the 2023 Mayo GAA convention.

Speaking at the convention, Murphy described the case as ‘a legacy issue’ relating to the payment of Cúl Camp wages a number of years previously.

She did not discuss the matter in detail with delegates, citing the ‘extremely sensitive’ nature of the case.

In the financial year up to September 30 last, Mayo GAA’s accounts said they had 24 employees, 15 of whom were Cúl Camp coaches.

The audit and financial statements accompanying the Mayo GAA’s 2023 treasurer’s report found that Mayo GAA was tax compliant.
