THE Treasurer of Mayo GAA has said there is a ‘major shortage’ of footballs in the country at present.
Valerie Murphy was responding to a query from Kiltane delegate Richard Cosgrave at the monthly meeting of Mayo GAA’s county board.
Murphy told the meeting that county teams were the only teams that were able to purchase standard footballs at present.
She added that training balls were available, but that Elverys did not have Size 5 O’Neills footballs to purchase.
When The Mayo News logged onto O’Neills’ official website yesterday, individual Size 5 O’Neills Gaelic footballs used in intercounty mens’ games were available for purchase. Other brands of training balls could be purchased in batches of 12.
The Mayo News has contacted O’Neills for a comment.
