MAYO dual star Keith Higgins is currently ‘taking a break’ from the county hurling panel.
The four-time All Star footballer has yet to feature this year for the county’s hurlers this season, who are still chasing their first win after two games in the Christy Ring Cup.
Current Mayo captain David Kenny told The Mayo News after last Saturday’s defeat to Tyrone that the Ballyhaunis clubman was not currently involved with the panel.
However, Kenny did not rule out a return for the 38 year-old veteran.
“Keith is obviously a massive stalwart to hurling. He’s taken a step back, and well deserved,” David Kenny explained
“He gave 20 years of his life to Mayo, so it’s a well-deserved break for Keith.
“Keith’s a magician. He makes the ball talk, he’s a brilliant hurler. Obviously, his pace, power and just the ability to take on a man. He’s a brilliant hurler,” added the Tooreen defender.
“I’m sure, not too long, we might see him again at some stage but at the minute he’s taking a break.”
