€250,000 Donegal GAA draw prize lands in Mayo

Ballina ticket holder wins top prize in major Donegal GAA fundraising draw
A Mayo-based ticket holder is celebrating a life-changing win after taking home the €250,000 top prize in the Donegal GAA bumper draw.
The winning ticket was held by Anne Duffin of Ballina, Co. Mayo, whose name was drawn at a special event at Jackson’s Hotel in Ballybofey on yesterday evening (Sunday, August, 30).
There was considerable excitement as supporters from Donegal and further afield tuned in for the eagerly anticipated draw, which was held in the presence of Garda Ciara Gibbons as an independent observer.
Initial attempts to contact the winner by telephone were unsuccessful, but when Ms Duffin was eventually reached, it emerged that she has strong Donegal connections — she is originally from Ardara and is now living in Mayo.
The €250,000 prize was the headline reward in the fundraising initiative, which is aimed at supporting the continued development of facilities at the Donegal GAA Training Centre in Convoy.
Four additional winners each received €1,000. They were Brendan O’Neill from Meath, Anne Bradley and Joseph Carlin from Buncrana, and Mark McDowd from Letterkenny.
Donegal GAA chairperson Mary Coughlan thanked everyone who took part in the draw and those who supported the initiative from further afield.
She said the fundraising would be crucial to planned developments at Convoy and appealed for continued support for Donegal GAA.
For Mayo, however, the night belonged to Ballina resident Anne Duffin, whose winning ticket has brought the €250,000 jackpot across the county border.
